Anthropic Launches Redesigned Claude Code Desktop App and Autonomous Routines

Anthropic has rolled out one of its most significant practical upgrades to date for developers and engineering teams with a complete redesign of the Claude Code desktop application and the introduction of Routines, a new research-preview feature that lets users automate complex coding tasks on Anthropic’s cloud infrastructure.

Announced on April 14, 2026, these updates mark a clear evolution from interactive coding assistant to a persistent, multi-agent development environment. Developers can now orchestrate parallel sessions, reduce context-switching, and hand off repetitive work to run autonomously, even when their laptop is closed.
