FTC opens probe into AI labs

One day after the labs signed a voluntary accord at the White House, the subpoenas started. The FTC is investigating OpenAI, Anthropic and the evaluation group METR, with information demands expected in the coming weeks. The probe launched earlier this year.

Also today: Google DeepMind released Gemini 4 Argon, a frontier model with a one-million-token output limit for coding, enterprise and cybersecurity work. It's trusted testers only.

A nonprofit is suing OpenAI over the July 2026 Hugging Face hack, asking a court to bar the company from accessing third-party systems.
